| Week 22 The Health Update Erika is feeling good, although she is having recurrent foot cramps. She is beginning to look unmistakably pregnant (which is a good thing). Success Nearby This week our good friends Chris DeMars and John MacArthur had their first child, a boy named Royce. He's healthy, the labor lasted a mere 20 hours :) and everybody is doing great--although I hear through the grapevine that Chris highly recommends the epidural. Erika and I especially like to hear success stories like this now. Congratulations to the DeMars-MacArthur clan. Traveling and Commuting While Pregnant Erika and I took a weekend trip to Savannah last weekend. Our very good friends Hester Peirce and Jen Druliner came down, too. They are good travel companions because they are up for anything and enjoy just the right mix of group and individual activities. We had a good time and Erika made it through two plane trips and a 4 hour delay in the airport with no problems. Did you know that airlines will actually refuse to serve women who look about 9 months pregnant, unless they have a note from their doctor saying they are not at risk of going into labor on the flight? We, of course, did not experience this on this trip, but I wonder if as Erika moves along that an airline will give her trouble as she tries to board a plane (I imagine she will be traveling for her job at least a few more months). Erika takes the bus to work and back every day. At some point, I imagine we will start driving to work, but Erika hopes to avoid that as long as possible (parking in downtown Chicago is expensive $$$). Now that she is beginning to show, we are interested to see if fellow riders will give up their seats for her when the bus is crowded. I don't see many riders giving up their seats for anybody in Chicago, so we'll have to keep an eye on that. Luckily, she can get a seat most days. But, if Erika has to stand a lot on the bus, I think we'll be driving downtown sooner rather than later. Big Announcement Current and back issues of this journal are now available on the web. I will be sending out a special announcement about this very soon. Next week: The desire to plan |
