| Week 25 The Health Update Thankfully, Erika is doing much better. Her cough has largely subsided and she returned to work on Wednesday. Otherwise, the baby is doing his/her best dance steps in utero. It is now to the point where you can put a coin on Erika's stomach and watch it bounce up and down, if you pick the right time. Very cool. Also, we had another very visible sign appear this week of Erika's impending motherhood. Not everyone may appreciate hearing about this one, so if you're really curious, let me know and I'll tell you. If you are squeamish about personal details, though, I advise you to sit this one out. The Guardian Issue All the entries have been tabulated regarding who should be the guardian of our child. Turnout was about as much as you would have for a sewer district election. The winner is Erika's sister Margaret who promised to plant our child in her backyard and water him or her, and take them in during frost warnings. Honorable mention goes to Stacie Young who reminded us that we had already made her the guardian for our cat May a while back. We will be cementing Margaret and Stacie's status in a legal document sometime soon. Spring Training In this space I had intended to write a review of our trip to Spring Training but due to Erika's illness, we postponed the trip. Actually, Erika was supposed to go to Florida on business, but, luckily, her otherwise non-maternal boss (remember her?) instructed her not to go and risk stunting her recovery. Boot Camp for Fathers This week, I discovered a class run by the University of Chicago hospitals, "Boot Camp for the Expectant Father." It is on March 16. I plan to sign up this week. I'm sure it will be a topic for a future journal. Next week: The Ballad of John and Yoko |
