| Week 35 The Health Update All indications are we are in the last 2-3 weeks of this pregnancy. Erika is now seeing the midwives weekly. This week she had an appointment where everything checked out great. Her blood pressure was fine, which we had been a little worried about. They also said she was about 1cm dilated. That's good, I am told, although it would seem to me that means the baby is starting to make its way down the highway, if you know what I mean. The midwife told Erika she was lucky to not have any stretch marks. I'll leave it at that. It's Starting to Rain We had Erika's shower last weekend. We were very fortunate to receive a number of very necessary gifts, from receiving blankets to clothes to mobiles for the crib. Erika enjoyed seeing some of her good friends who she hasn't seen in a while. Thanks to Stacie, Elizabeth and Judy for putting it all together. And, it was an ecumenical affair with Jewish folks and non-Jewish folks learning about each others' baby traditions. Furniture Building My good friend Fred came in to town last weekend, ostensibly to help us put the IKEA furniture together. However, in a sure sign that I must be mature enough for fatherhood, I was able to successfully put together the furniture before he arrived. Still, we found lots of physical labor-type things he could help with. So, we are grateful to him for that. Of course, the real reason he came to town was to go to the Blues-Blackhawks game last Sunday night, which the Blues won 4-0. Road Warrior I was in Washington this week, twice. Traveling that much makes me feel like I've been gone for weeks. I think it's time to draw a line in the sand at work and stop travelling, however, just in case. Of course, I haven't told the bosses that yet, so we'll see how that goes. Next week: Cramming for birth and parenthood |
